Musical on legendary monk

A MUSICAL depicting the fascinating and dramatic legend of Li Shu Tong, who became a Buddhist monk known as Master Hong Yi during the turbulent days of the Qing Dystany, will be staged in George Town this September.
Music on Stage Production from Kuala Lumpur will be producing Above Full Moon at the Dewan Sri Pinang from Sept 23 to 26.
The show, organised by SMJK Phor Thay and Chokyi Gyaltsen Centre (CGC), tells of Li Shu Tong revolutionising China with his flamboyant artistry in painting, music, poetry, drama and arts education.
It will be staged from 8pm until 11pm except on Sept 25 when the show is from 2pm until 5pm.
Above Full Moon was created by director Ho Lin Huay and composer Imee Ooi following their successful collaboration in Siddhartha The Musical last year.
Organising chairman Datin Goh Suat Guat said the show, aimed at raising funds to build an indoor sports centre at SMJK Phor Thay, would feature 50 Malaysian performers.
For tickets, priced at RM50 to RM150, call the SMJK Phor Thay School Board at 04-6442772/04-2623101, Than Hsiang Temple at 04-6414822, or CGC at 012-4386228 (Datin Goh) or 012-5227889 (Jennifer).
