Message from CGC's President

Dear members, benefactors and friends,

It is with much pleasure that we are introducing our newly arrived Resident Geshe, Geshe Deyang. Geshe Deyang's biography is extracted below. In wikipedia, Geshe (Tib. dge bshes, short for dge-ba'i bshes-gnyen, "virtuous friend"; translation of Skt. kalyāņamitra) is a Tibetan Buddhist academic degree for monks. The degree is emphasized primarily by the Gelug lineage. There are four categories of Geshe: Dorampa, Lingtse, Tsorampa and Lharampa, Lharampa being the highest. Geshe Deyang is of the highest academic class, a Lharampa Geshe.

In short, Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche sent one of the best geshes to CGC, and we are all so grateful to the kindness of Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

Geshela has been awarded a 3 years visa to stay in Malaysia, and during these three years, Geshela will help develop CGC into a dharma powerhouse. CGC for the next 3 years will hope to benefit a lot of people, spread dharma to lots of people. Therefore, you could expect there will be many series of dharma teachings and activities catering for beginners, intermediate and advanced students.

3 years is a short time, and there is no more a better time to start learning dharma from the one of the most qualified teacher available in Penang.

I look forward to seeing you in CGC more regularly, and I trust that everyone is going to experience a wonderful taste of dharma nectar from Geshe Deyang. I leave you with the very high profile biography of Geshe Deyang.

For more information, do write to us.

Best wishes,
Daniel

Introducing Geshe Deyang

Past Resident Teacher of LDC (2006 Jan - 2007 Jan)

Geshela was born in June 16, 1966 in Dharamsala, India.

In 1979 when He was 13 years old, Geshela left His hometown and traveled southward to Bylakuppe, a remote neighborhood where He was admitted into Sera Je Monastic University, then home to approximately 1,200 monks from all over India, Tibet and countries of the Himalayan region. From 1979 to 1999, Geshela participated in the extensive studies of Buddhist philosophy through attending classes, daily memorization of texts and rigorous debates with classmates etc. This eventually culminated in His graduating with a Lharam Geshe degree (equivalent to PhD) in year 2000, which is the highest possible credential granted by the monastic university to any monk who successful completed his 20 years of curriculum and passed all tests with top grades, which include written tests and public debates.

In 2001 Geshela returned to Gyuto Tantric College to further His knowledge in the tantric rituals. Upon completing His study, Geshela was elected into the Gelug Examination Board as the Secretary General. From 2001 to 2003, He took charge of the monastery's examinations. After retiring from the Board of Examination, Geshela was again chosen to be the Head of Sera Je's Hayagriva Committee in 2003, Geshela is Himself an expert in the entire practices and rituals of Hayagriva.

Then at the end of year 2004, among 5 other candidates who are also Geshes and His seniors, Geshela was selected to become Sera Je's new Gegu (Master of Discipline, and a position next to the Abbot) with 60% votes from all the monks in the monastery.

New Year Eve Dharma Activities in CGC‏

Dear members, benefactors and friends of CGC

I take this opportunity to wish all of you a very blessed and happy holiday. A lot of us have had an unbelievable time with a great lama, Kyabje Choden Rinpoche, and received so much blessings from Him. We were so happy to see so many dharma brothers and sisters from Thailand, Singapore, and particularly from our sister center in KL, Losang Dragpa Center.

On 31 Dec 2010, 9:00pm, on the eve of New Year, CGC will be holding:

Extensive Merit Accumulation Activities
(including reciting a very powerful auspicious sutra to create auspiciousness all year round for 2011)

&

Powerful Purification Practices
(to get rid of our unwanted negative karma before they are ripened)

We will be making lots of light offerings and mandala offerings

(Kyabje Choden Rinpoche mentioned that the merits we create by making mandala offering are beyond our conceptual thoughts!!)

And, we are very pleased to announce that Wesi Rinpoche has kindly accepted our request to grace this event, and Ven Dechen, also has kindly accepted our request to lead the prayers.

The programs will start at 9pm and are expected to last till next year! If you cannot attend the full session, you can leave any time.

These programs are sure to end your 2010 in the most meaningful way. And with all the negativities purified and merits extensively created, that should be the way to celebrate our new year!

To all the members, benefactors and friends who wish to create extensive merits for the Great Enlightenment, for great success, for auspiciousness, for good health, for excellent luck,

and,

to all the members, benefactors and friends who wish to purify unwanted negative karma to avoid misfortune, to get rid of bad luck, to remove obstacles,

we look forward to the joyous occasion of celebrating this new year with you.

Best wishes
Daniel Yeoh

Welcoming Address To Kyabje Choden Rinpoche By CGC's President, Dr. Daniel Yeoh On 22nd December 2009

Earlier this year, I went to Borobudur for pilgrimage with Kyabje Choden Rinpoche, and with the great advice of anila Osel, I made request to invite Rinpoche to come to teach at Chokyi Gyaltsen Center. Rinpoche with so much compassion accepted my request, and Rinpoche, all of us at CGC are extremely happy that Rinpoche is here today to teach us.

Over the next 7 days, we request Rinpoche dispel the darkness that has been clouding our mind, and we request Rinpoche to ripen our mind stream so that we could quickly achieve many realisations. We request Rinpoche to ripen our mind so that we are ready to practise highest yoga tantra very soon.

Many of us here serve dharma and work very hard for dharma according to the holy wishes Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche. We also request Rinpoche to dispel all our obstacles, secret and outer obstacles, so that we have perfect conditions to serve dharma and practise dharma, and have a lot of realisations.

Rinpoche you mentioned in your teaching recently that if a qualified student relies on a qualified master, inner realisation is as easy as "ABC".

We have no doubt that Rinpoche is a perfectly qualified spiritual master, and on our side we will try to be a qualified student; we will try to have our mind freed from biased, 2) we will try to develop some wisdom discriminate between right and wrong 3) and we will strive hard to develop strong aspiration to achieve inner realisation.

Rinpoche, your holy presence here is so rare and so precious, and I hope all of us here at CGC will sincerely aspire to be your qualified students and seek to practise dharma and make our dharma practice as offerings to Rinpoche.

Once again, thank you so much Rinpoche for coming to CGC.
